Aunt Lou here.

We have quite a few yummy Mexican inspired dips on the site (Fiesta Cheese Dip, Sausage Cheese Dip, Taco Cheese Dip, Cheesy Bean Dip…you get the point!). When I saw the recipe for this Cream Cheese Taco Dip in Gooseberry Patch’s Slow Cooker to the Rescue, I was so excited to find a new twist on one of our favorite style of dips. And I mean, come on, it has cream cheese in it! Of course I was excited! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Then I tasted this Cream Cheese Taco Dip and decided that it just took the number one slot for my favorite cheesy dip. Oh. My. Yum.

Ingredients for Crock Pot Cream Cheese Taco Dip

  • 16 oz pasteurized processed cheese product cubed
  • 2 8 oz pkgs cream cheese softened and cubed
  • 16 oz jar salsa
  • 1 oz pkg taco seasoning mix
  • 1 lb ground beef browned and drained
  • corn or tortilla chips

Notes:

  • Dotty was the star crock for this yummy dip. She is my 2.5-quart polka dot crock pot. I would recommend keeping this in a 2-3 quart crock. I’m guessing Cris would use her mini casserole crock. Do you have a favorite crock pot dips?
  • Just a heads up, cutting softened cream cheese into cubes is a bit messy. However, having it softened helps it to melt along the same timeline as the other cheese…and it is definitely worth some messy finger while prepping! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

  7. Can I leave the meat out of this recipe? My daughter in law does not eat meat at all (weird, I Know)

      Hi Christie-
You can if you would like. It will have a bit of a different texture and taste, but the cheese and tomatoes will still serve as a base for the dip. Enjoy!

    2. I donโ€™t eat meat. When I make this, I use morning star veggie crumbles. Even my carnivore friends like it!

    3. Gillyanne says:

We make it with almost any of the vegetarian “fake meat” products out there & everyone loves it, even my son-in-law, caus’ he doesn’t know it’s NOT REAL FLESH ; ) .
I sometimes will add about half a 15oz. rinsed, drained & slightly mashed black beans, Fantastic recipe!

Sounds delish! How would you prepare this wonderful dip on the stovetop? Thanks.

      Hi Evelyn!

I haven’t tried this on the stovetop, but if I did, I would combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan. Then I would cook it on over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it is all melted. Let me know how it goes! Enjoy!

  9. You don’t need to cook the meat first?

    1. 5 stars
      Hi Kiersten!

Yes, you will need to brown and drain the ground beef. It isn’t in the instructions, but in the ingredient list. I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

    2. I use half hamburger and half sausage to give it more of a kick! I love this recipe and have made it many times. I have adjusted over the years using different mixtures for fun and flavors.

  11. Hi Aunt Lou, Could I use ground sausage instead of ground beef? When you say “processed cheese” are you using Velveta cheese? Thank you for your!

    1. 5 stars
      Hi Betty!

I haven’t tried this recipe with ground sausage yet. It would change the flavor a bit, but if that is your preference, I think it would work. I actually use the Kroger generic for Velveeta called Nice ‘n Cheesy (tastes just as good and is cheaper!), so you can use whatever ‘velveeta’ you prefer! Enjoy!
